CUSP West: Harnessing CCUS for a Greener World

Welcome to the Carbon Utilization and Storage Partnership (CUSP) West!

We are a dynamic initiative, generously funded by the Department of Energy, with a clear mission: to accelerate the implementation of onshore Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies in the Western Region of the United States.

Through collaborative efforts, CUSP harnesses the collective expertise and resources of its diverse members to drive research, development, and implementation of CO2 utilization technologies. By fostering collaboration between academia, government entities, national laboratories, and industry partners, CUSP aims to unlock the potential of CO2 as well as permanently store it in the subsurface. This multi-faceted approach not only contributes to reducing CO2 emissions but also fosters economic growth and technological innovation in the Western Region. We are actively working towards our vision of reaching net-zero emissions.

Significance of CCUS to CUSP’s Mission

While the primary focus of CCS/CCUS is capturing and securely storing anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, CUSP recognizes the importance of CO2 utilization as a complementary approach. In addition to storing CO2 in saline formations in the subsurface, CO2 utilization entails converting CO2 emissions into useful resources, thereby providing economic and environmental benefits.

At CUSP West, we believe in the potential of CCUS to drive sustainable change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and pave the way towards a more sustainable future for our communities and our planet. Join us in our journey to make a positive impact on the environment and create a thriving, net-zero carbon future.
